Free Telescoping Session for the Total Lunar Eclipse on the evening of March 3, 2026
The PAGASA Astronomical Observatory successfully hosted a Free Telescoping Session for the Total Lunar Eclipse on the evening of March 3, 2026, welcoming astronomy enthusiasts, students, families, and members of the public to witness the remarkable celestial event.
As the Moon rose already in its partial eclipse phase, attendees were immediately able to observe Earth’s shadow covering a portion of it. Visitors gathered at the observatory grounds in Quezon City to follow the progression of the eclipse through telescopes set up in designated public viewing areas.
As the evening progressed, guests observed the Moon gradually move deeper into Earth’s shadow until it reached the total phase, when the Moon took on its distinctive reddish hue. PAGASA personnel and volunteers were present throughout the activity to operate telescopes, guide visitors, and share insights about the science behind lunar eclipses and the celestial alignment of the Sun, Earth, and Moon that makes such events possible.
The event provided a valuable opportunity for the public to experience astronomy firsthand and observe one of the most captivating celestial events visible from the Philippines. We also extend our appreciation to everyone who tuned in to the live view of the eclipsed Moon on our Facebook page, allowing more people to witness the event online.
The PAGASA Astronomical Observatory extends its sincere thanks to everyone who joined the Total Lunar Eclipse Free Telescoping Session and to those who followed the event through our livestream. We look forward to welcoming the public again for future astronomical observation and outreach programs.
