Women and Girls in Astronomy held at the PAGASA Planetarium and the PAGASA Astronomical Observatory
DOST-PAGASA successfully celebrated Women and Girls in Astronomy through a series of engaging activities held at the PAGASA Planetarium and the PAGASA Astronomical Observatory in Quezon City on March 6–7, 2026.
Organized through the initiative of the International Astronomical Union Office for Astronomy Outreach and in celebration of National Women’s Month, the event aimed to inspire young women and girls to explore astronomy and space science while promoting a more inclusive scientific community.
Over the two-day event, visitors enjoyed free planetarium shows, telescope-viewing sessions, and a special astronomy workshop, attracting participants from various schools and communities.
At the PAGASA Astronomical Observatory, guests had the opportunity to participate in stargazing and telescope viewing activities from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, allowing them to observe celestial objects and learn more about the night sky from PAGASA personnel.
Meanwhile, the PAGASA Planetarium hosted several free planetarium shows, offering audiences an immersive experience that introduced them to astronomical concepts and the wonders of the universe.
A highlight of the event was the astronomy workshop titled “Cosmic Discovery Trail: Claiming Our Space,” conducted on March 7, 2026, at the PAGASA Planetarium. The workshop welcomed young participants aged 5 to 17 and provided hands-on learning activities designed to spark curiosity and interest in astronomy and science.
The event was open to the general public, with special encouragement extended to young women and girls interested in astronomy. Young boys and aspiring science enthusiasts who support inclusive and equitable participation in science also actively participated in the activities.
Through initiatives such as this, DOST-PAGASA continues to support efforts that promote science engagement, inclusivity, and curiosity about the universe, encouraging the next generation to discover and claim their place among the stars.
