Advancing Regional Collaboration: Philippines Hosts 2025 ASEAN INTERVATION
Delegations from the 11 ASEAN Member States, along with representatives from other countries, attended the 2025 ASEAN Intervention Session on Tropical Cyclone Impacts Towards Disaster and Climate Resilience held on November 27–28, 2025, in Manila, Philippines. This initiative is part of an STI Framework for Action: Converging Towards the Development of an ASEAN Platform on Science, Technology, and Innovation for Disaster and Climate Resilience.
Present during the opening were DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum Jr., DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development and National ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation (COSTI) Chair for the Philippines Dr. Leah J. Buendia, and PAGASA Administrator and Philippine Focal Person for the Sub-Committee on Meteorology and Geophysics (COSTI-SCMG) Dr. Nathaniel T. Servando, together with ASEAN scientists and researchers. The delegates emphasized INTERVATION (intervention through innovation) as one of the key approaches in strengthening regional initiatives on climate and disaster resilience.
𝗔 𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗜𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗩𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡
During the two-day event, the ASEAN community tackled topics on tropical cyclone forecasting, regional knowledge-sharing, impact-based early warning systems, and policy and infrastructure pathways. Delegates actively engaged with one another and explored potential areas for future collaboration.
Recent studies and innovations on tropical cyclones were also highlighted during the World Cafe event, showcasing science, technology, and innovation across the region.
The ASEAN Intervation would be a recurring series aligned with the rotating ASEAN Chairmanship focusing on hazards and challenges in the region identified by the SCMG.
