ONSET OF THE NORTHEAST MONSOON
Over the past few days, observations have indicated the strengthening of a high-pressure area over East Asia, which has caused a surge of northeasterly winds over Extreme Northern Luzon.
In addition, other environmental conditions, which include the increasing atmospheric pressure and cooling of the surroundings, have been observed. These meteorological patterns indicate the start of the Northeast Monsoon (Amihan) season. Moreover, forecasts indicate successive surges of the monsoon over the next two weeks that may cause rough sea condition over the seaboards of Northern Luzon.
With these developments, the Amihan is expected to be more dominant in most areas of the country, bringing cool and dry air and episodes of cold temperature surges. Furthermore, occurrences of rough sea conditions and shear lines in the country are also expected within this season.
PAGASA will continue to monitor the country's weather and climatic conditions. Meanwhile, the public and all concerned agencies are advised to monitor relevant PAGASA information regularly.
