DOST-PAGASA continues to serve amidst threats of COVID-19;
postpones its N/WMDay 2020 activities

While the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) continues to be pandemic despite the
efforts of government interventions, DOST-PAGASA commits to serve and provide
24/7 weather forecasts to the Filipinos.

The dedication of round-the-clock weather forecasters and observers will be
commemorated in the upcoming 70th World Meteorological Day with the theme:
“Climate and Water” on 23 March 2020. Moreover, DOST-PAGASA will also be
celebrating its 155 years of providing Meteorological Services in the Philippines
with the theme: “A Legacy in Retrospect to the Pillars of Meteorological Service” on the
same day.

However, in compliance with Proclamation no. 929 of 2020, DOST-PAGASA
temporarily halts the lined-up activities on March 23 but will push through once the
health crisis is over. Some of these activities include: a historical walkthrough
exhibition of the 155 years of DOST-PAGASA, Science Symposium, the PAGASA
Loyalty Awards and the Conferment of Wind Vane Awards, the highest award given
by the agency to its partners on disaster risk reduction.

The agency will still join the World Meteorological Organization in recognizing the
passion of weather forecasters and observers, as well as highlight how Science and
Technology (S&T) can aid the Filipinos.
