There are posts currently circulating online and being shared in various social networking services stating there is a low-pressure area (LPA) that will enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) before Christmas and affect the Mindanao area. To prevent unwanted panic on the part of the public, we would like to make the following clarifications.

Based from all available data today, PAGASA is monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) over the Pacific that is expected to enter the PAR on the 23rd or 24th of December. It will be closest to the landmass of Mindanao on the evening of 25th or morning of 26th of December. This LPA has 30-40% chance to develop into a tropical depression. In this regard, the public is advised to undertake precautionary measures, continue monitoring for updates and remain vigilant against unofficial information coming from unverified sources.
