Celebration of the 29th National Astronomy Week

21 January 2022

Celebration of the 29th National Astronomy Week
20 – 26 February 2022

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is mandated to spearhead the annual celebration of the National Astronomy Week (NAW), observed every 3rd week of February under the Presidential Proclamation No. 130, s. 1993. This year’s celebration will be from 20-26 February 2022, with the theme “Ma(g)laya(g) Tayo Sa Mga Tala”. In the ancient Baybayin script, the word for "freedom (Malaya)" could also be read as "to set sail (Maglayag)," depending on the context in which it is used. Hence, this year's theme evokes the boundless freedom that awaits us all on our journey to the stars.

For the week-long celebration, PAGASA has prepared the following activities:
1. 1st PAGASA Astro Vlog Contest (Register here: bit.ly/NAW22_AstroVlogContest)
2. Webinar series entitled “Revisiting Philippine Ethnoastronomy Amidst the Pandemic” on 21 – 22 February 2022 (Register here: bit.ly/NAW22_WebinarRegistration)
3. Understanding Philippine Ethnoastronomy: A Research Symposium on 24 February 2022
4. Virtual telescope viewing using the 45-cm GOTO telescope of PAGASA Astronomical Observatory on 25 February 2022 (Register here: bit.ly/NAW22_WebinarRegistration)
5. Virtual Planetarium Show on 26 February 2022

The online activities will also be live-streamed at the official Facebook page of PAGASA: facebook.com/PAGASA.DOST.GOV.PH

For more information about the celebration, kindly contact Ms. Ma. Rosario C. Ramos, Chief, Space Science and Astronomy Section (SSAS) at the telephone number (02) 8284-0800 loc 106 or send an email at nawph.pagasa@gmail.com.
